AKA DESIGNARCHITECTURAL DESIGN
Biophilia
ABOUT ME

I lived and worked in São Paulo, Brazil, before moving to Hawai‘i in 2011. Since then, my design practice has evolved through the integration of my Brazilian education and professional experience with Hawai‘i’s distinctive cultural context and environmentally conscious approach to design.
My design thinking is deeply influenced by Brazilian Modernism, an architectural movement that taught me to appreciate formal simplicity, materiality, craftsmanship, and the thoughtful relationship between architecture and its surroundings.
Through my doctoral research, I explored and integrated existing principles of biophilic design and applied them to contemporary urban playgrounds, developing an innovative design framework that reconnects people with nature through the built environment. This research profoundly influenced my practice, and biophilic design has since become an essential component of my design philosophy and guidelines.
I believe in creating sustainable and culturally sensitive environments that are thoughtful, authentic, and respectful of both people and place. For me, design is not simply about creating beautiful spaces; it is about fostering meaningful connections between people, nature, culture, and the environments we inhabit.
